Walking in the Light of the Lord

Isaiah 2:1-5, Psalm 122, Romans 13:11-14, Matthew 24:36-44

The prophet Isaiah gives us a vision of God’s future: nations streaming to the mountain of the Lord, weapons transformed into tools for life, and people learning the ways of peace. It is a promise not yet fulfilled, but one that draws us forward. Psalm 122 echoes this hope as we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, rejoicing to go up to the house of the Lord, knowing that worship shapes both our hearts and our common life.

Yet Saint Paul, in Romans, insists that this future presses urgently into the present. “Now is the moment for you to wake from sleep.” Salvation is nearer than when we first believed. Advent is not passive waiting; it is a call to live as people of the coming day, laying aside works of darkness and clothing ourselves with Christ.

Jesus’ words in Matthew sharpen the call. We do not know the hour of the Son of Man’s coming. Therefore, we are to stay awake — not in fear, but in faithful readiness. To be watchful is to live now in the light of what God has promised.

As we walk in the light of the Lord, may our lives bear witness to the peace, holiness, and hope of his coming kingdom.
