Beautiful feet and Open Ears

Isaiah 52.7-10, Psalm 19.1-6, Romans 10.12-18, Matthew 4.18-22

Isaiah proclaims the beauty of the messenger’s feet, not because they are unmarked by dust or wear, but because they carry good news: peace, salvation, and the reign of God. The Gospel always arrives on foot, embodied, vulnerable, and sent.

Psalm 19 widens our vision. Before a word is spoken, creation itself is already preaching. The heavens declare God’s glory; the sun runs its course with joy. God’s truth is not hidden away but poured out generously, reaching every corner of the world.

Paul, in Romans, brings urgency. How can people believe unless they hear? And how can they hear unless someone is sent? The Church exists not for itself but to be a living echo of God’s word—spoken, sung, lived. Faith is kindled not by spectacle, but by proclamation received with open ears and willing hearts.

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus calls ordinary fishermen. “Follow me.” No long explanation. They leave their nets and walk behind him. The good news advances one obedient step at a time.

This is our calling: rooted in Scripture, attentive to God’s world, faithful in proclamation, and ready to follow when Christ calls. May our feet be willing, our ears attentive, and our lives bearers of good news.
