God’s Word and Our Response

Numbers 24.2-7, 15-17, Psalm 25.3-8, Matthew 21.23-27

In Numbers, Balaam’s prophecy reminds us that God’s word cannot be contained or manipulated. Even when called to curse, he blesses, revealing the unfolding of God’s purposes. The promise of a ruler rising from Jacob’s line points beyond the present, toward God’s faithful plan to bring justice and peace. God’s vision stretches across generations, calling us to trust in what we cannot yet see.

Psalm 25 grounds this trust in God’s character. “All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness.” In uncertainty and confusion, we are invited to seek guidance, to wait patiently, and to lean on God’s covenant. God teaches us the way, corrects gently, and keeps our hearts from straying.

In Matthew, the authority of Jesus is questioned, yet he turns the challenge into a lesson about listening and discerning. True authority is not asserted through force or fear, but revealed through obedience to God and openness to God’s will.

As believers, we are called to hear God’s word attentively and respond in faith. Whether blessing or challenge comes, God’s plan is sure. May we trust the One whose word brings life, seek his guidance daily, and follow Christ with courage, humility, and obedience.
