Exodus 33.7-11a, Psalm 117, 1 John 1, John 21.19b-end
In Exodus, Moses meets the Lord in the tent of meeting, speaking with God “face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” This is a moment of extraordinary intimacy. God is not distant or hidden, but chooses to draw near, inviting conversation, trust, and shared purpose. Leadership, Moses learns, flows from relationship before it flows into action.
Psalm 117, brief yet expansive, calls all nations to praise the Lord. God’s steadfast love and faithfulness are not private possessions but gifts for the whole world. What begins in encounter with God opens outward into praise and witness.
In his first letter, John grounds this fellowship in light. To walk with God is to walk truthfully, naming our sin and receiving forgiveness. Fellowship with God and with one another is sustained not by perfection, but by honesty and grace. God’s light exposes in order to heal.
In John’s Gospel, the risen Jesus restores Peter and calls him anew: “Follow me.” The past is neither denied nor allowed to define the future. Love leads to service; forgiveness leads to costly faithfulness.
As Christians, we are shaped by this pattern of encounter, confession, and calling. We meet God in prayer and sacrament, walk in the light together, and follow Christ wherever he leads—sustained by grace, and held in friendship with God.
