1 John 2.22-28, Psalm 98.1-4, John 1.19-28
John warns against those who deny Christ, reminding us that truth is found not in clever words or persuasive arguments, but in the One who is the Christ. Believers are called to abide in him, holding fast to the knowledge received from the beginning. To remain in Christ is to live in light, resisting deception and sharing the confidence of God’s promises with others. The Spirit, given to us, strengthens this abiding, guiding hearts and minds in discernment.
Psalm 98 calls all creation to rejoice in God’s faithful acts. God has done marvelous things, bringing salvation and justice to the earth. The psalm reminds us that praise is not optional; it is the natural response to God’s truth and faithfulness. Rejoicing and singing testify to the reality of God’s presence in our midst.
In John, we meet John the Baptist, sent to prepare the way. His witness is clear and humble: pointing to Christ, denying self-glory, and directing all to the one who brings salvation. Like John, we are called to point beyond ourselves to the truth of Christ.
As believers, we are strengthened by Scripture, sacrament, and Spirit to abide in Christ and proclaim the truth with courage and love.
Prayer
Faithful God,
keep us rooted in your truth and steadfast in your promises.
Guide us by your Spirit to discern what is right,
to resist deception, and to bear witness to your Son.
Fill our hearts with joy and praise,
that we may reflect your light in the world.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
