Isaiah 48.17-19, Psalm 1, Matthew 11.16-19
Isaiah reminds us that the Lord is our teacher, guiding us in what is good and leading us in the paths of righteousness. God’s instruction is not burdensome, but life-giving. Obedience to God brings blessing: our ways become fruitful, our steps secure, and our hearts aligned with the Creator who delights in our flourishing. Turning from God, however, leads only to wandering and sorrow.
Psalm 1 paints a vivid picture of the one who delights in God’s law. Like a tree planted by streams of water, the righteous person thrives, bears fruit in season, and endures through every trial. Meditation on God’s Word shapes our lives, so that what we do, think, and say springs from a rooted relationship with God.
In Matthew, Jesus observes how people respond to God’s work in unexpected ways. Some complain or reject God’s messengers, while others accept them with open hearts. God’s ways are not always understood or applauded by the world, yet the kingdom advances quietly and faithfully, inviting all to join.
As people of Faith, we are called to listen, learn, and live in obedience to God. May we delight in God’s instruction, meditate on the Word, and bear fruit in love, trusting that walking in God’s way brings true life and joy.
